High School Batik.
Batik is a type of artwork using cloth, wax-resist dyeing technique and fabric dye. I personally learned the art of Batik when traveling in Bali, Indonesia. A local batik artist and his father taught me while I was traveling. What a gift and I have made sure to share it with my students.
Students apply wax to fabric using tjanting tools of various sizes depending on detail desired and brushes. Dye is applied on top of the wax and this layering process can be repeated. Near the end- wax can be painted on the entire work and then dipped completely into dye to creating "cracking". The final step is to iron all wax from the work.
